The ghosts of leading figures of times past roam the Tuileries... The famous architect Mansart drew up the plans for the impressive Place Louis-le-Grand in 1699. Before being renamed Place Vendôme, it became Place des Piques during the Revolution and experienced bloody times. An interesting fact: the house of Chanel was inspired by the octagonal shape of the square for the design of its perfume stoppers! Around Place Vendôme Not far from the luxury stores, the Saint-Roch church (284 Rue Saint-Honoré) is one of the largest in Paris and is home to a fabulous collection of religious works of art from the 18th and 19th centuries.
