Rue Vieille du Temple is located in the heart of Le Marais area, which the center and the oldest part of Paris. There is the Maison de Jean Hérouet, belonged to the treasure to Louis XII. It was built around 1510 and still has its mullioned windows and an elegant corbelled turret. Nearby stood in the 15C the Hotel Barbette, the discreet residence of Queen Isabella of Bavaria who began the fashion for the masked balls, while the king, Charles VI, resided at the Hotel St Paul.
